Real Life Is Gray CHORUS: All sides are gray, every line is blurred Nothing is cut and dried no matter what you've heard Choices are never easy, there's always a price to pay Old movies are black and white, real life is gray The answer's not a slogan, the answer's not a chant It's not "yes I can" and it's not "no you can't" So many contradictions and truth so seldom seen Right and left, right and wrong it's shuffled in between CHORUS No one is excused, no one is immune No one should expect redemption any time soon There are no cardboard cutouts with edges so well defined Clenched fists are everywhere, open hands hard to find CHORUS You look on in horror, I look on in fright What devils are cavorting outside of this circle of light If you choose to make a stand look what you're standing on It's bound to shift under your feet, the it will be gone CHORUS Old movies are black and white, real life is gray Real life is gray

Riverview 03:01
Riverview Outside my window there flows a river Always changing and always the same It flows on even when I'm not watching Feeding the ocean, fed by the rain If you lived alongside a river Upstream and downstream would be all that you'd know The far shore would be out of your reach Whether miles away or just a stone's throw I always have lived alongside the river Hugging the shore as I moved town to town Never ventured very far inland Never wanted to leave what I had found But being a gambler I crossed that river Found myself on the other side Made a wager, sat down at the table When I read the cards there was nothing to hide Lost my heart and lost all my money Turned over the queen and the joker grinned When the breeze picked up I let them all scatter Cards flying like leaves in the wind Cards flying like leaves So many times I crossed that river So many lives I crossed on the way Memory runs deep and so does the water The current is swift but some things will not wash away So I will sit on the banks of my river It belongs to me "cause I choose to be here We both are just bodies of water One full of rain and one full of tears One full of rain and one full of tears

Train Hoppin' Well come here kid, I know you're new on the street Let me tell you where all the guys are gonna meet We'll be down in the woods, down by the track If you wanna come along I'll help you get the knack When you see what we do, your eyes 'll be poppin' Come on boy, we're going train hoppin' First we'll wait in the woods, hide behind a tree So when the train comes by the brakeman he don't see Then get your rear in gear and run alongside Grab a hold of that ladder , boy and take that ride Pull your legs up quick, now there ain't no stoppin' Hang on tight because you're train hoppin' Well you can hang on the side or sit up top Just be sure to give a yell if you see a cop We can ride in style til we reach that bend And then the hardest part of hoppin' is hoppin' off again Yeah we pull a lot of stunts but there's no toppin' The thrill we get when we go train hoppin'

When Enough Is Enough Well my father told me long ago that the seas of life get rough And if you're sailing 'round in circles, boy You've got to know when enough is enough But I would not listen to him, no, and I had to call his bluff So it wasn't till I ran aground til I knew when enough was enough Well I stood back up on shaky legs and I brushed away the sand I lit my lamp and I set out to look for an honest man Now some men walk in single file, some walk in disguise Some say one thing with their mouths and another with their eyes They'll slap you on the back my boy, give you all that friendly stuff If you find it's going to your head You've got to know when enough is enough I've heard all their promises, I've took all their guff What kind of fool do they think I am, I know when enough is enough They say the tough they all get going now when the going it gets tough But how many times do they have to go Til they know when enough is enough I'm going out again my boy, come and help me if you can Light your lamp, take a walk with me We've got to look for an honest man Light your lamp take a walk with me We've got to look for an honest man You know I really didn't plan this, it's all been off the cuff But as long as I've got your ear Do you know when enough is enough

Restless 04:05
Restless You probably think I've adjusted, it's worn but fits so well You probably think that I can be trusted, wonder how you can tell Because you're right, I pose no threat, how quickly we forget I know which borders are mine and I never step off the line But let me share a secret with you, I'd be a rich man it's true If I had a dime for every time that I had wanted to I stayed while others travelled, I lost my turn to roam Tangled lives become unraveled when they're far from home But in spite of all regret and all the wanderers that I have met These borders are so well defined, I can never step off the line But let me share a secret with you, I'd be a rich man it's true If I had a dime for every time that I had wanted to So you can follow desire or do what you must instead Dreams can set your head on fire but dreamless you're good as dead And though it's not quite over yet, I'd be willing to bet Though I'll lose more than I'll ever find, I'll never lose my restless mind But let me share a secret with you, I'd be a rich man it's true If I had a dime for every time that I had wanted to And I have wanted to

Style 02:32
Style Now just by way of explanation let me bend your ear for awhile I think you ought to know, hah! as if it doesn't show That I don't give a - about style I'm not a man of flash or of fashion, Just take one look you'll see that's true Well preening is just not my passion, I'll never make the cover of GQ I am no splash of sartorial splendor, my Nikes won't last another mile I don't put no mousse upon my hair, got no designer underwear I just don't give a - about style Look at my socks you'll be amazed, yeah One blue, one brown and I'm not ashamed But what I really am so proud of is I've got another pair at home exactly the same Now believe me when I tell you that when I'm dressed to kill It really is a crime and that's no doubt And when I paint the town, I like to paint it brown You can dress me up but you can't take me out I've got no pair of hundred dollar sneakers Oh, but personality, well I've got a pile And it all just goes to waste, because I simply have no taste I just don't give a - about, don't give a - about Don't give a - about style

Songs On The Sidewalk Here we are on the corner, the case is open at my feet It's cold out here today, not many on the street You play a little rhythm, I'll pick a little lead You sing the harmony what else do we need to sing CHORUS: Songs on the sidewalk, songs to passersby Songs that live for the moment then quickly fade and die Songs to capture your attention, to make you look our way We've got songs to break even, songs we love to play Well we watch 'em come and we watch 'em go And they look up once in awhile We might make no money but we might make one smile We'll sing one that's old and one that's new One about love and before we're through We'll sing one more chorus, maybe someone else will sing too So let's sing CHORUS It's not getting any warmer, it's so cold I can see my breath If we had to make a living like this we'd both starve to death There's only one rule on which we both can agree, and that's If it sounds good to you my friend, then it sounds good to me So let's sing CHORUS 2X Songs to break even, songs we love to play

In Between Years I'm not a young man but I'm not old yet I've marked my place here in case I forget To wander back to some point of passing Years spent waiting and time spent asking We lived a life there, we picked their names then We turned the paged of restless days when That chapter ended, the book was done One story over, one just begun Strange how it comes back to me The way it all used to be When the only time there was to spend was free CHORUS: Those in between years along the Hudson Those in between years down by the water Those in between years north of the city Those in between years south of the country And worlds away I search your eyes now and you search mine We look for people we've left behind But all things move on and all things change What was familiar now seems so strange And if you've changed, well so have I It doesn't mean that the river has run dry Yesterday's gone and left no trace But we have tomorrow to take it's place For no matter where or when As it was before it can be again I am with you now, just as I was then CHORUS And worlds away

Trouble Rolls In Well everyone's got their point of view and the view from here is fine Now I ain't no magician but I can read what's on your mind Well trouble rolls downhill and I see you rolling this way I'm gonna step aside and give you room so you can roll away Don't want to see you go but I'd hate to see you stay I make no excuses, I give no advice I might make mistakes it's true, but I rarely make 'em twice And I don't take no chances, no I'm not the reckless kind Except maybe once, or was it twice? Well, never mind When trouble rolls in I know danger's right behind I know you don't have the patience, I ain't got the time I can't see your side of this, and I don't want you on mine Well I've been through this before you know And I can tell you how it ends Just shake hands and walk away we could be just friends Because a wise man knows what a fool only pretends Yes I've been through this before you know I'm gonna tell you how it ends Shut up, shake hands, sit one out , we could be just friends Because a wise man knows what a fool only pretends Yes, a wise man knows what a fool only pretends

Acre Bay 04:09
Acre Bay My name is Tom, my age is ten, And oh, the places I have been Exploring every day every inch of Acre Bay For it's my home, where I was born And as I rise up every morn I run off to make my way All along the shores of Acre Bay Now I'm 16, soon to be a man And I'll leave whenever I can For I have no wish to stay And be stuck in Acre Bay With all the ships that crowd the sea There must be room on board for me And my dream 'most every day Is to be far away from Acre Bay Now my childhood days are through And I'm out sailing with my crew We fish to earn our pay Off the coast of Acre Bay And though I barely see the shore I still long for something more For at the end of every day We always sail back into Acre Bay Now comes the day, now comes the news Now here's a fight I can't refuse I've enlisted right away And I've set out from Acre Bay The sounds of war, the ports of call I love them one and all But the best part I'd have to say Is that I'm far away from Acre Bay Then my roving came to an end And I was homeward bound again But I had not one word to say To all the folks in Acre Bay And though my friends came down to me I did not turn 'round to see And they lowered me down that day Into the cold hard ground of Acre Bay Now all the ships that sail this way Fell me ride the winds of Acre Bay

Never Meet Again I wish you well, I wish you good fortune I can't see you 'round the bend We are headed toward different places And our paths will never meet again I remember when we were children And I would see you all of the time The world was ours for the taking We had so many hills to climb But life's not measured by years or seasons But by each slowly passing day And there's been many days since I've seen you Many markers crossed along the way I wish you well, I wish you good fortune I can still remember when I wish you peace and always Godspeed Our paths will never meet again If I had known when we were together How short our time was to be I would have held you just a little longer At the time it did not occur to me Sometimes I wonder what you look like now But I have no regrets We are living in different worlds And yours is a world I've never met I wish you well, I wish you good fortune I can't see you 'round the bend We are living in different worlds And our paths will never meet again I wish you well, I wish you good fortune Please think of me every now and then I wish you peace and always Godspeed Our paths will never meet again
